Definition

AMAALA is an ultra-luxury coastal tourism destination on Saudi Arabia’s northwest Red Sea coast, developed by Red Sea Global as a wellness, arts, and culture retreat targeting the world’s most discerning travellers.

Overview

Positioned as the “Riviera of the Middle East,” AMAALA was announced in September 2018 and encompasses a 4,155-square-kilometre area along one of the most pristine stretches of the Red Sea coastline. The destination is organized around three distinct communities: Triple Bay (wellness and healthy living), The Coastal Development (arts and culture), and The Island (exclusive private resort experiences).

AMAALA’s positioning occupies a distinct niche above The Red Sea destination, targeting ultra-high-net-worth individuals and the global luxury travel elite. The development includes over 3,000 hotel rooms across approximately 25 hotels and branded residential estates operated by leading international hospitality brands. Programming emphasizes transformative wellness experiences, contemporary art exhibitions, immersive cultural journeys, and marine discovery.

In 2022, AMAALA was consolidated under Red Sea Global alongside The Red Sea destination, creating operational synergies while maintaining distinct brand identities. The destination leverages the same commitment to regenerative tourism that characterizes RSG’s broader portfolio, with development designed to enhance rather than diminish the natural environment.

Role in Vision 2030

AMAALA embodies Vision 2030’s ambition to position Saudi Arabia among the world’s premier luxury tourism destinations. By targeting the ultra-luxury segment, the project maximizes revenue per visitor and positions the Kingdom alongside established luxury destinations in the Mediterranean, Maldives, and Caribbean. The arts and culture programming also supports Vision 2030’s goal of developing a vibrant creative economy.

The project contributes to the broader Red Sea tourism corridor that, together with The Red Sea destination and NEOM’s Sindalah, creates a differentiated coastal tourism offering of unprecedented scale in the Middle East.
